Absolutely my saving grace as far as keeping this insane year somewhat organized... Having my students keep up these notebooks has been a major part to any success that I have had this year. I use a very specific organization method and definitely have to be sure to repeat it again and again... not just in the beginning of the year but daily. I spend almost an entire day setting them up during the first week and when I grade them I take the time to not only fill out the rubric but also write notes throughout (it is tedious but I feel the students really appreciate it and acknowledge the fact that they are meaningful). I have everything including my intro powerpoint, rubric, and the reflection that I have them complete on my TPT Site
Interesting! Any thoughts on a warmup change I've been playing with? I currently distribute new warmup sheets every two weeks. I used to grade these for completion, although I don't like to - I only like to grade things that show learning, not participation. This year, I've started giving open-note warmup quizzes on the same concepts, but different questions. My goal is to have students engage in the warmups without grading for completion. Thoughts?

At the school that I work at we give separate grades for higher level thinking (really showing complete understanding of the content) and lower level thinking (participation and completion of quick simple assignments). Usually my warm-ups are questions that relate to the students prior knowledge or something that they can relate to their lives. It is just a quick few sentences about something that they already know. I feel like it lowers the affective filter and shows them how what we are learning can relate to real life.
